Of all the short piano pieces by Brahms [Op116-119], these 7 Fantasies are the least known to me, being introduced to me last of all, well today i felt that they have crossed a line, and have become my friends, whereas before they were somewhat strangers, it seems that the shorter the number in the set of pieces, the more cognizant they become to each other, probably why Op116 don't easily gel together, they really do sound like just a bunch of 7 piano pieces thrown together, but like 7 people you could pick off the street at random, each has an individual character, and each shows a different facet, in searching my Blog, i cannot find another review of this work, so this makes its maiden voyage here.
Helene Grimaud is French, she was born in 1969, and is now 42, she made this recording in 1995,
