Van Der Graaf Generator [World Record]

A genius of an album, in the midst of Disco and the like, VDGG come up with something truly alien, eschewing the classic quartet of three guitars and drums, this Quartet has Organ and more strangely a lead Saxophonist in the make up, creating some truly challenging sounds, plus add to the mix the vocals of Peter Hammill, with a strange Opera singer like voice, throw in some cosmic lyrics, and you end up with a band that are so unique.

This listen i truly enjoyed Meurglys 3 [The Songwriters Guild], it's my favourite VDGG track of all time, i just love when the music hits a crescendo at 8:18 and Hammill sings the lines,

'When no more plants or dogs
or rooms are there to hear you
and no one is left near you, then you'll see
in the end there's only you and Meurglys 3'

and then there's the 7 minute jam at the end, where Hammill and Jackson improvise like Jazz musicians, it's over 20 minutes long, but it's so cohesive, everything fits together perfectly, i've never heard another band like them.

Here's Van Der Graaf Generator playing Meurgly's III on YouTube.
