Joshua Redman [Timeless Tales For Changing Times]

This was a wonderful experience, i decided to go out for a nice leisurely walk, and i took this disc with me, it's such a funky Jazz album, it's my favourite from Redman, even better than his excellent Freedom In The Groove album [23rd March 2010], one of the things i didn't like when i first got hold of this album, is that there are 10 tracks / songs, and yet there are 17 index listings on the disc, and that's because there's these 7 short 'interludes', well that's what they're called on the tracklisting inside the booklet, these are short 'less than a minute' bridges between tracks that last between 20 and 59 seconds, at first they annoyed me, it would have been better to have left them out, now... i find them truly inspiring, i actually use them as sort of 'preludes and postludes', on the back inlay i've rubbed number transfers in red to tell me which i view with each track, plus i've rubbed letter transfers down the side to call each track A-J, it's a great album overall, and it was wonderful to listen to this again today.

Joshua Redman is American, now 43 years old, he recorded this disc in 1998, bringing together a superb quartet of musicians, one of the greatest things about the album is the front booklet cover and the back inlay too [photography by Robert M Ascroft 2], the front is in colour, a close cropped shot of the face of Redman, with his hand over his mouth, his jumper is nicely out of focus, and a blue background, the back inlay is in black and white, an even better shot, same principle basically, but a better pose, a lovely track listing [especially with my number / lettering transfers], and the splash of colour it gives, and a nice musician list too.

Like i said at the start, this is such a funky little album, Redman is like the HipHop Artist of Jazz, his phrases are just exciting, he really gets your brain dancing to the music, all of the tracks were of the highest order, except maybe the last track, and even that's just plain very good, the three tracks that i found to be the very best of all, are as follows, and i'd like to do a synopsis of each,
4/C Yesterdays -
9-10/F It Might As Well Be Spring
12-13/H Love For Sale
