Dvorak composed this Concerto in the autumn of his life, his last Concerto, and one of his greatest pieces of music, it's full of great tunes, and packed full of feeling, it was good to be able to familiarize myself with this Concerto again today.
Natalia Gutman is a Russian Cellist, born in 1942, she isn't really well known in the West, and i can't think of a lot of recordings she's made, she made this recording in 1991, the booklet cover [photo by Bonnie West] is excellent, nice use of a sky blue background, and the red logo nicely stands out, i like a booklet that has had some thought go into it.
The middle slow movement is so full of heartache, this Adagio is in G Major, but sounds like something out of a minor mode, the woodwinds feature heavily here, with a lovely autumnal feeling,
Here's an excerpt of Natalia Gutman playing the first movement on YouTube.
