I just love this album, from the first time i saw it in Tower Records, to joyfully finding it half price second hand in another shop, there's a certain something about compilation discs, this one has 16 shorter pieces, most are famous and very welcome, others are less so, and also are very welcome, they introduce a new Composer to me, i've played this disc a lot since i bought it in 1997, i just love the Denon label, they have some treasured discs in their catalogue.
Kyoko Tabe is Japanese, she has extensively recorded on the Denon label, and now she records for Chandos, the front cover is really nice, the disc was recorded in 1994.
It was so good to familiarise myself with this disc and music, i think i made a new friend in track 7, the Liadov Barcarolle, it's so superb, i liked tracks 6-7 & 14 the best, and it's that Schubert Impromptu which impressed me the most, Alfred Brendel would play it as an encore, it's so sublime and soothing, .
Here's Krystian Zimerman playing Schubert's Third Impromptu [first set] on YouTube.
