Another female Singer / Songwriter like yesterday, this disc comes from extensive listening i did on CD Baby, they let you sample the first 30 seconds of each track, i must have sampled hundreds of albums, and whittled them all down to a dozen, and bought the best, this was one of them, she plays the ukulele extensively on this disc, making a slight Blugrass sound, it's easygoing stuff, very acoustic, a bit Zydeco i suppose, and this is the first time i've given this disc a proper listen, so it still has a lot of room to move on me.
Victoria Vox is American, [originally born Victoria Davitt], now 33 years old, she recorded this disc in 2008 i guess, i was drawn to this disc by the front cover [photo by Drew Neerdaels], a stunning picture of Vox, lovely and sharp and bright, excellent lighting and contours on the face / neck, with crochet work as the backdrop.
I must admit i found some of the songs a little bit twee or whimsical, but it pays repeated listening, she of course plays the ukulele, as well as the toy piano, and has a realistic mouth trumpet [she 'pretends' to be playing a trumpet!, by her lips / mouth alone, hmm yes, but she's quite realistic], almost falling into a sort of children's music schoolteacher, but like i say, her songs can be simply quite meaningful at times, the song i liked the most was track 4, 'The Bird Song', this is where she plays the toy piano, almost a tinny glockenspiel, but it's well done, and the damn mouth trumpet comes into play as well, ha ha, but i like the song, it has more depth than its innocence at first reveals.
Here's Victoria Vox singing 'The Bird Song' on YouTube.
