Here's the first of Schubert's last three great Piano Sonatas, and this is a very worthwhile set to obtain, Schiff has some great insights, i played this disc last March [22nd March 2011], one thing he focuses on is the first movement exposition repeats, he is quoted as saying that the omission is the musical equivalent of 'the amputation of a limb', certainly these repeats really do add an extra insight.
Andras Schiff is Hungarian, born in 1953, though he now resides in England, he recorded this work in 1992, these Decca Double issues are wonderful, only a few days ago i was saying how wonderful it was to have a certain Faure double disc set, this one has a bleak forest / wood with leafless trees, fairly stark, but really clever too, and also the colour scheme is in an orange-brown, very autumn, in like it a lot.
Well it's the first movement that really inspired and moved me again,
