I've slowly played this disc this year, two months ago i played the Second Sonata [29th June 2011] and earlier this year i played the Third [9th March 2011], each time i've mentioned the quirky difference that these two players create in interpreting Brahms, they're fairly unique, and yet i'm really fond of this disc, it really is one of the best Brahms Violin Sonatas i own, and i really enjoy listening to their unique ideas.
Pamela Frank is American, now 44, she made this recording in 1996, the sound is fairly blunted, dull and thudding in the bass, very warm, but you easily get used to it, like i've said before, the booklet is inspired and a joy to look at, oranges, browns, and black, the lettering for the Artists under each picture, a sensible idea, the whole thing looks great.
